DOWNTOWN PLATTE CITY AND PLATTE RIDGE PARK ARE THE SPOTS
The Art in the Park Committee and Platte County Parks and Recreation announce the artists and entertainment for the upcoming Platte County Art Celebration Weekend featuring two favorite events: the 7th Annual Art in the Park and the 2nd Annual Platte County Plein Air Paint Out happening Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23-24 in downtown Platte City and at Platte Ridge Park.
AREA ARTISTS DEMONSTRATE AND SHOWCASE TALENT Artists of all types will be participating in Art in the Park on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Platte Ridge Park. Slated to attend are photographers, stained glass artists, painters, fiber artists, sculpture artists, and jewelry makers. There will be demonstrations and items for sale.
PERFORMING ARTISTS ENTERTAIN Performing on the stage will be Linda Burgess, Brice Willson, students from Harper Haus Music Co. and the K-Pop band Ethereal, who won first place in Chinatown’s first ever K-Pop Dance Competition last month. The Heartland Belly Dancers and Beatniks Performance Team will also be dancing on Saturday in the park.
FREE ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES Cohen’s Frame Shop will be providing a large mural for everyone to contribute their artistic touch to on both Friday (downtown Platte City) and Saturday (Platte Ridge Park). There will be face painting by The Christ Chapel Clowns and the Platte County R-3 High School Theatre Department. The Christ Chapel Clowns will be creating balloon animals (Saturday only) at Platte Ridge Park. Other activities include rock painting and bookmark making.
COMPETE TO WIN PRIZES Artists of any age and skill level can participate in the Platte County Plein Air Paint Out on Friday from 12 – 7pm downtown Platte City and Saturday 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Platte Ridge Park. It is free to participate. Register the day of the event. Artists should bring everything they need to create including easel, canvas, paint, and brushes. The final works will be judged on Saturday at Art in the Park. Prizes will be awarded for Best Adult and Best 13 and Under.
There will be a Chalk the Walk Contest with prizes being awarded to the Best Adult and the Best 13 & Under for their creative sidewalk chalk art. All supplies are provided for this one. Contest runs from 11am -1pm during Art in the Park at Platte Ridge Park Saturday only. Winners of both events will be announced at 2pm Saturday at the park.
FOOD AND DRINKS Free water will be provided by the Platte City Friends of the Arts. Hayley’s Food Truck will be on site for attendees to purchase other beverages and food.
WHERE TO GO Friday, Sept. 23 in downtown Platte City, 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.. Plein Air painters check in at the corner of Third and Main Street and can paint anywhere in the downtown area. Mural painting at Cohen’s Frame Shop, 319 Main Street.
Saturday, Sept. 24 at Platte Ridge Park Shelter from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 17130 MO Hwy 371, Platte City, MO 64079. Follow the signs to the shelter house by the pond at the back of the park.
Art in the Park is held rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Platte County Community Center North/YMCA at 3101 Running Horse Road, Platte City.
