Darn those socks — literally! Community education will offer a darning class during July along with a number of other courses that include swim lessons, robotics, photography and more.

Movie night: "The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild" For adults and students with disabilities, this movie will play on Thursday, July 7. Check-in starts at 5:45 p.m. and the movie promptly at 6 p.m. "The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild" continues the escapades of possum brothers Crash and Eddie who set out to find a place of their own. $5 per participant, Grand Arbor Theatre, masks will be required.
Monthly Craft Club (Ages 6 - 90) This monthly Craft Club for adults and students with disabilities meets 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, July 12. It offers an art project for each month with a seasonal or home décor theme. All materials are provided. $19, The Design Station.
Summer Outdoor Dance Party Outdoor dancing and socializing for adults and students with disabilities in the Voyager Elementary School Parking Lot. DJ Sabrina will provide music and games. There will be treats and drinks. Lawn chairs or blankets are recommended. $10. 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19.
Lap Swim Discovery Middle School's 8-lane, 25-yard pool is open 5:30-7 a.m. Monday-Friday, July 1-29, except for July 4. Monthly membership costs $31.
Diving Clinic (Entering Grades 6-12) This class at Discovery Middle School covers basic skills and helps students build core strength and work toward dives for competition from all categories. Previous diving experience of any kind is preferred. See website for dates and prices.
Summer Swim Lessons There are still a few openings for swimming lessons at Discovery Middle School. Four sessions cost $67.
Summer Discovery Advantage (Gr. 6-8) Discovery Middle School will offer four weeks of fun with weekly themes for students entering Grades 6-8. Each fun with weekly themes. Students can choose to participate in a variety of activities each week and also pick and choose which week to attend. The weeks include breakfast, hot lunch, snacks and field trips.
Getting to Know Your Android Phone & Tablet - Online This class will start with the basics and take it one step at a time so students don't get overwhelmed. $28, online, 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, July 6.
Sketching in the Garden Explore the fun and challenge of drawing from observation. This class explores the tradition of nature journaling. Students will develop skills to draw what they see using pencil, watercolor, and ink. Classes will be held at the Legacy of the Lakes Museum Garden. All drawing skills welcome. $75, Legacy of the Lakes Museum, 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursdays, July 7 - Aug. 4. No class July 14.
Intro to Darning - Online Students will learn to fix holes in socks, T-shirts and other garments through darning, a beginner-friendly hand-mending technique that involves weaving over holes with interlocking stitches. $39, 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 8.
Using Google and All It Has to Offer - Online What is the use of Google? Google offers Gmail, Chrome, Maps, Drive, Spreadsheets, Youtube, Calendar…and much more! They are also free to use. Class costs $28, 10 a.m.-noon, Tuesday, July 12.
Winemaking Kyle and Phil at Walking Plants Orchard will teach wine making starting with how to grow berries, followed by primary fermentation, secondary fermentation, stabilizing and clearing, and bottling. Class will end with making wine from a wine kit. The class costs $49 and is scheduled for 6-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 15.
Dog Obedience This is a basic obedience course that will be held outdoors for dogs 12 weeks of age and older. The commands covered will be Heel, Sit, Stay, Come and No. But more importantly, its lessons on dog behavior and training basics will help owners continue to train their dogs. $55, Voyager Elementary School parking lot, 5:30-6:#0 p.m. Mondays, July 18-Aug. 15.
First Tech Challenge Robotics Camp (Gr. 7-8) The high school FRC 3313 Mechatronics team invites all students to come and learn to design, build and program Vex robots. In this camp, students develop critical thinking and team-building skills and have the opportunity to perform missions. $99 at Discovery Middle School, 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 18-21.
Beginning iPhone Photography with Nature Walk This beginner class will show students how to take effective, meaningful, and beautiful photographs with their iPhones. Classroom learning will be followed by practice during a “Golden Hour” nature walk at Big Ole Central Park. Acrylic Painting for Tweens (Ages 11-15): Open Studio This class will cover acrylic painting techniques, composition as you paint, color theory, color palette selection, and brush handling tips. Cardinal Pride Running Club (Grades 5-8) Kids are invited to run this summer to get in shape for fall sports. The cost is $15 at Dean Melton Fillmore Park Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 7-Aug. 11, from 8-9:30 a.m.
Introduction to Baseball/Softball (Age 5) This program is designed to expose 5 year old children to the game of baseball/softball. Must be 5 by June13. Six one-hour sessions will be held at the AAHS softball complex. Children will learn hitting, throwing, catching, base running, and the concept of the game of baseball/softball. $30, Softball Field 3 5:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, July 11-27.
Youth Track & Field Camp This four-day basic introduction to the sport for girls and boys will offer long jump, high jump, shot put, hurdles, and more for kids entering Grades 4-5 and Grades 6-8. $60 at AAHS Stadium and Track, 1-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 11-14.
Rally Kid Youth Tennis (Ages 5-7) Tennis instruction for all levels of ability, offering fundamentals and fun. Age appropriate tennis racquets will be available for use or players may bring their own. Participants MUST wear tennis shoes (No sandals). July 12-29, Alexandria Area High School tennis courts. Yoga in the Gardens Yoga equally strengthens and stretches, increasing flexibility and repairing muscles. It’s all about relaxing. This class is free of competition and comparison and is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. $28 at the Legacy of the Lakes Museum from 5:15-6 p.m. Wednesdays, July 13-Aug. 3. No class July 27.
Cardinal Youth Football Camp Run by current Alexandria Cardinal football coaches, the camp is for all students interested in playing football. They will learn offensive and defensive stance, alignment, footwork and agility, blocking and tackling, passing, receiving and route running, offensive and defensive play. Alexandria Girls Basketball "Skills Roundup" Camp (Gr. 1-6) Athletes will work with the Cardinal Varsity coaching staff on skills and advanced offense and defense techniques. The first-third grade session will focus on the basic skills and concepts.
