A Japanese artist shares a video where they show how they turned a cheap prize figure of the Sound Hashira into a highly detailed showpiece.

A new video shows how a Japanese artist transformed a Demon Slayer figure into a highly-detailed masterpiece that rivals even the most expensive scale statues.

The video comes from the YouTube channel Figure Brush Painting Channel [Maman] and documents how one talented artist was able to turn a comparatively simple Ichibankuji figure (a type of collectible statue frequently given out at Japanese stores and arcades as gifts or raffle prizes,) into an amazingly detailed showpiece that looks like it was pulled off of a manga page or animation cel. The Sound Hashira figure was given to the artist as a surprise at the beginning of the video. Using simple model paint applied by hand, the YouTuber explains how they upgrade the collectible, including how they add new details to the figure, such as the veins on Tengen Uzui's arms, and how they are able to recreate the anime series' shading and coloring style on a three-dimensional figure.

More of Maman's painting process videos and tutorials can be seen on their YouTube channel. In addition to their recreation of Demon Slayer's most flamboyant Hashira, the artist has also upgraded figures from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and has even dabbled into creating their own figures from scratch.

The character of Tengen Uzui was first introduced in Demon Slayer's Hashira Meeting arc. Like many of the other Hashira, who are the highest ranked warriors within the Demon Slayer Corps, Uzui is initially hostile towards protagonist Tanjiro Kamado and his demonic sister Nezuko, but over the course of the series, a mutual respect develops between the self-proclaimed "flamboyant" ninja and the Kamado siblings. He plays a key role in the events of the Entertainment District arc, where the Hashira and his trio of wives partner with Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke and Nezuko to take down Upper Rank members of the Twelve Kizuki, Daki and Gyutaro. The arc is one of the most acclaimed parts of the original Demon Slayer manga, and was the basis for most of the anime series' second season, which was praised for studio Ufotable's feature-quality animation and action choreography.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba was created by Kotoharu Gotouge and first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016. The complete manga series is now available in English from VIZ Media. The first two seasons of the anime are now available for streaming from Crunchyroll and Hulu. A third season, which will adapt the Swordsmith Village arc, has been confirmed to be in production but currently has no premiere date.
