Hillsborough County, Fla. (Sept. 15, 2022) - Get your markers and paint brushes ready! The Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with its annual Poster and Bookmark Contests for students in grades K-12.

The art contests kick off today as a creative way for kids and teens to celebrate the culture and traditions of Hispanic Americans reflected throughout the community. The contests are open to elementary, middle-, and high-school students, and prizes will be awarded to the winners. Students in grades K-8 are invited to participate in the bookmark contest where each student designs a bookmark that reflects Hispanic customs and lifestyle. Participants can use crayons, markers, colored pencils, or paint to decorate their bookmark. High school students are invited to participate in the poster contest, which involves designing a poster that celebrates Hillsborough's Hispanic Heritage. The poster must be 8.5 inches x 11 inches. Participants can scan and submit their finished artwork electronically to LibraryProgramming@hcflgov.net or drop it off at any public library through Oct. 15 by 5 p.m. Winners will receive prizes including art supply packages and the opportunity to have their bookmark or poster professionally printed. The contests are in partnership with the City of Tampa and the Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Council. In 2021, the library received over 400 submissions for the art contests. The judging panel consists of Hillsborough County School District, City of Tampa, and Hillsborough County Library Services members with a shared focus for how each design is successful in communications, connection to the theme, cultural representation, and craftmanship. For inspiration, participants can view last year's winning bookmarks and posters. The Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15-Oct. 15 through special events, curated booklists, and art contests.
