“Artists are such a natural part of Maine, and the natural world is so inspiring ..."
The Maine Audubon hosted a painting weekend at multiple sanctuary sites as part of ‘Brush with Nature: Plein Air Art Event and Auction.’
Through the program, the Maine Audubon invites a select group of local plein air painters to paint at nature sanctuaries from Aug. 20 to Sept. 28.
The open painting weekend provides visitors with an opportunity to watch painters capture their surroundings while they explore the nature sanctuaries.
“Artists are such a natural part of Maine, and the natural world is so inspiring and so we wanted to get artists out to encourage people to come to be inspired and see our sanctuaries," said Maine Audubon staff member Jenn Schmitt.
The program culminates with an art auction that begins online on Sept. 18 and ends with a silent auction at Gilsland Farm Audubon Sanctuary in Falmouth on Sept. 29.
The participating artists will donate between 50 to 100% of the money from their art sale to the Maine Audubon, helping to fund nature preservation and education efforts.
