COOK — Artists Brenna Kohlhase, Lauren Nelson and Sterling Rouleau will exhibit their artwork in a special showing at Northwoods Friends of the Arts (NWFA) beginning Wednesday, September 7, until Friday, September 30. The NWFA gallery is located at 210 S. River Street in the Dreamweaver
Lauren Nelson, an artist and NWFA board member, will present his exhibit called “Photographs—Relics of The Past.” The exhibit is comprised of selections of pictures, photos and memories, including digital prints and prints from 35mm slide/ film media from years past.
Lauren works wonders by precisely using photographs with wood and metal called mixed media. He is the artist who constructed more than one sculpture of the Stuntz Bay Boat Houses. He also constructed the striking red coffee cabinet for the NWFA Gallery that is a work of art. Be sure to see it when you visit the gallery. Lauren has been an avid working board member and has not exhibited since 2016 when he presented “Cruisin the Range,” a photo exhibition of classic cars on Virginia’s main street.
“Bold Strokes…My Love of Unpredictable Color” will be the displayed work of versatile artist Brenna Kohlhase, who teaches classes at NWFA. One upcoming class is the “Make A Field Sketch Book” class on September 17. Last November she conducted a fun and helpful class called “Gift Bags, Tags and Trimmings.”
Kohlhase is a watercolorist who has been trying her hand and heart using acrylic paint. Here is her description: “I have taken the past two years to learn the new colorful medium of acrylics. One positive side effect of the pandemic for me has been extended time to explore new mediums and become very experimental. I am finding it so much fun to swatch out color strings, brush opaque broad strokes, and create textural marks. Loving collage and mixed media, I have been dabbling in encaustic hot wax and also cold wax to add some texture to my work.
First-time exhibiter Sterling Rouleau is a 17-year-old Eden Prairie High School student who has had an interest in art from an early age. He will be exhibiting 12 of his original pen/pencil drawings in the form of 10.5 by 13.5 digital ink jet prints mounted on wood. His exhibit is called “Introducing… Pen and Pencil Drawings: Digital Ink Jet Prints.”
Northwoods Friends of the Arts is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization. The gallery features original artwork by 30 to 40 artists for year-round viewing and sale. Memberships and donations support NWFA’s mission.
