One hundred and seventy five artists from up to 14 countries have registered for this year’s Wexford Art in the Open Festival taking place from Sunday, July 24 to Monday, August 1.

E urope’s largest outdoor painting festival will see artists sketching and painting en plein air  in Wexford town, Kilmore Quay, Johnstown Castle, Hook Head and Slade Harbour, Enniscorthy and Inistioge

The public are welcome to follow the artists throughout the festival as they capture on canvas the county’s beautiful villages, towns, castles and historic landmarks.

There will be daily workshops and demonstrations with artists including Valerie Craig, Marc Dalessio, Roger Dellar, Thomas J Kitts, Rob Pointon, Barry John Raybould, Keiko Tanabe, Grahame Booth and Tina Orsolic.

International artists Barry John Raybould and Rob Pointin will give art presentations in the Jerome Hynes Theatre at the National Opera House on Thurs, July 28 and Sunday, July 31.

The Festival’s popular charity quick draw will take place in the Bullring from 2pm to 4 pm on Saturday of the August bank holiday weekend, in aid of Wexford Rape Crisis Centre.

A public exhibition of the selected work of participating artists will open in Greenacres Gallery in Selskar on the bank holiday Sunday, continuing on Monday with an opportunity to purchase paintings. It will be officially opened by the chairman of Wexford County Council, George Lawlor.

People are invited to become a Patron of Art in the Open, to help support the festival. For a €50 contribution, you will get invited to a private preview of the exhibition and a wine reception in Green Acres Gallery and if you buy and artwork, the €50 will be deducted from the sale price.
