Midland Blooms is set for 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Eastman Avenue in Midland. The program typically brings over 500 community residents and businesses together for a one-day volunteer service project planting flowers on Midland’s Eastman Avenue corridor providing community ownership residents can be proud of as well as community beautification. This year, red petunias will be planted on the 2.5 mile stretch on Eastman from Wackerly to Buttles.
Dahlia Hill Society's Annual Tuber Sale is set for 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Dahlia Hill. Over 150 different types of dahlia tubers will be available. Some blooms are as big as 10 inches and other dahlias as tiny as 1 inch. The height of these flowers vary from 1.5 feet to 5 feet. The sale will continue 9 a.m.-12 p.m. May 23-27 and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. May 28. Additional details regarding the specific types of dahlia tubers will be posted on Dahlia Hill Society's Facebook and Instagram prior to the sale.

Many activities are scheduled for Saturday in Porte Park. From 10 a.m to 4 p.m., there will be a Mom-to-Mom sale and pop-up vendors, inflatables for the kids and a Dow125th Birthday tent celebrating volunteerism, job opportunities and community project awareness.
Chalk the Walk is set for 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in Downtown Midland and at Creative 360. Come check out Downtown Midland as local artists decorate the sidewalks with colorful, temporary works of art. This year’s theme – Art Transforms. There will also be a free-for- all section for anyone to enjoy at their leisure. Registration for the sidewalk chalk art competition will remain open until May 13. In the chance of inclement weather, the backup day for this event is Sunday, May 22.
From 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, there will be a tree and memorial dedication in Porte Park. That’s followed by a 1:30 p.m. dog parade around the park. Then at 2 p.m., there is a new event, wiener dog races.
Between 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, people can meet artist Andrew Rieder, who is creating the downtown Sanford mural “Shine on Sanford.” Weather permitting, he will be working on the mural.
Get your dance on from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at The Studio on Saginaw Road with free line dancing and waltz lessons.
From 3 to 7 p.m., there will be music, food and flood survival stories at the Sanford Museum, courtesy of Coleman Faith United Methodist Church. Also, from 3 to 5:30 p.m., there will be kids' games and prizes at the former Lanny’s Restaurant building.

Nature Play is set for 10-11 a.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. Whether we’re making pies in the mud kitchen, pretending to be animals, lounging in hammocks or creating nature art, this hour of play is sure to engage everyone! Caregivers must remain with children during this program and are encouraged to actively play alongside the children in their care. This program will be facilitated by a CNC staff member. Spring Wildflowers by Golf Cart is set for 3-4:30 p.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. Spring woodland wildflowers bloom quickly on the forest floor before the tree leaves open. The Beech Maple Woods is one of the Nature Center's best locations for wildflowers. Learn to identify wildflowers and their role within an ecosystem with a CNC naturalist. The Lunch and Learn health series is set to have its monthly meeting at 12 p.m. at Greater Midland Community Center's 50+ Center. Alicia Heading will present on "Core Strength and Stability." This event is free, with lunch provided by Independence Village Senior Living. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 4:45 p.m. at Northwood University. The ceremony is to celebrate the completion of the Mall Walk Improvement and Flood Mitigation Project. The new development incorporates underground infrastructure to protect the campus year-round from flooding and groundwater while providing a destination at the heart of campus for the Midland and Northwood University campus community to connect. Attendees are encouraged to park by the Hach Student Life Center/Bennett Sports Center. Sound Community Music Series is set for 7-9 p.m. at Live Oak Coffeehouse. This live music series features classical and jazz musicians from the mid-Michigan area.The first hour of each event is an opportunity for students, amateurs, and professionals to share musical performances. The second hour spotlights professional musicians as they perform a full-length concert. The featured artists of the evening gratefully accept financial support from the audience in the form of donations.

An Upper Chippewa River kayak trip is set for 6-9 p.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. Spend an evening paddling down the Chippewa River with a naturalist as you look for turtles, fish, herons, hawks and eagles. After meeting at the Visitor Center, we'll travel to the Universal Access Site via CNC van and begin a leisurely paddle down river back to the Nature Center. Open Studio is set for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Creative 360. A set time and dedicated place to create in the beauty of Creative 360’s gallery. Work independently, meet a group, find new friends or pop in ear buds and focus on your vision. Anything goes as long as you leave no trace when you leave (Don’t forget floor and table protection as needed). You are welcome to bring coffee, chai or a snack along with your art supplies, projects, brushes. Cost is $8.
A Bird Walk is set for 8-10 a.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. Spring migration is underway with new birds arriving every day. CNC’s variety of habitats support over 200 bird species making this an excellent wildlife hotspot. Learn to identify birds by using field marks, listening for songs and calls, watching flight patterns and using habitat clues. Birders of all experience levels are welcome. The Michigan Antique Festival is set for 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Midland County Fairgrounds. This event features over 80 acres packed with some of the best selection of vintage and unique finds. Admission is $10, free for kids ages 12 and under. The festival will continue 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 5.
The Summer Art Fair is set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in Downtown Midland. Held outdoors rain or shine, the Summer Art Fair has promoted the celebration of the fine arts and crafts while providing the engagement of the entire community. The second annual Art Seen Festival is set for 11 a.m.-9 p.m. in Downtown Midland. The Dows in Their Own Words is set for 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Dow Gardens. Join us in the 1899 Pines Home, as we read excerpts from family letters and shine a spotlight on life, for the Dow family, at the turn of the century. Participants will progress through this national historic landmark with readings along the way. The topic will be "Dow Love Stories." Cost is $5, plus admission. Registration is recommended. Masks are required for Pines programming.
Yoga and Kayaking is set for 12-2 p.m. at the Tridge. Participants will head out on the water in the kayaks upstream along the Tittabawasee River and then return downstream for a more leisurely float back to the Tridge, where they'll end with yoga overlooking the Tridge to stretch out and wind down from the journey. The Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival is set for June 9-12 in Downtown Frankenmuth. The event will feature polka bands and live entertainment, fireworks, a parade and many more events. General admission is $10, free for kids ages 12 and under.
